前から気になっていたのと、姉の勧めもあって最近読み始めたのがコロンビア人作家、ガブリエル・ガルシア・マルケスの「コレラの時代の愛」。ある有名医者の死から始まり、その未亡人に愛を再度告白する初老。半世紀を越えての壮絶な愛は応えてもらえるのか・・・胸が締め付けられるような愛は時には身体を蝕む病気、コレラのよう。類稀なる才能を持つマルケスは美しい言葉を奏で、読者を魅了します。
まだ読み始めたばかりですが、私はすでにマルケスの世界に惹かれ、何故か読むたびにアストル・ピアソラの音楽が聴こえてきます。とても不思議で魅惑的な本です。
I recently started reading Columbian writer, Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "Love in the Time of Cholera" as I had always been interested in it and because my sister had recommended it to me. It starts with the death of a famous doctor, and an old man confessing his love to the widow. Will his love which has been carried on for half a century be requited... Love so intense can poison the body at times like a sickness, such as cholera. Marquez who has a rare talent composes beautiful words which allures the readers.
I have just started but I am already drawn into Marquez's world, and for some reason I hear Astor Piazzolla's music every time I read. It is such a strange yet wonderful book.
